Classification
A working method for classifying real goods to the 10-digit level in the HTSUS 2026 Basic Edition, with the notes and splits that decide the recurring product families: apparel and textiles, footwear, machinery and electronics, vehicle parts, furniture, toys, food, chemicals, plastics and base metal articles.

Most classification items on the released exams name a product and offer four 10-digit numbers from neighboring headings or subheadings. The distractors come from predictable mistakes: knit versus woven, the wrong fiber, a parts heading instead of the article's own heading, the residual 'Other' line, or the wrong value or size band at the statistical level.
The exam reference is the HTSUS Basic Edition (2026 for the October 2026 sitting). Additional duties in Chapter 99 are not tested where they rest on executive orders outside the references.

If two options differ only in the last two digits, the question is about a statistical split. If they differ at the heading, look for a note.
