After claiming USMCA treatment, an importer learns the producer's certification of origin was based on wrong information. What must it do under 19 CFR 182.11(c)?
19 CFR 182.11(c) requires an importer that has reason to believe the certification of origin is inaccurate or invalid to promptly and voluntarily correct the claim, pay any duties that may be due, and submit a statement to CBP in writing or electronically. Doing so under the corrected-claim provisions (182.121-182.124) protects it from penalties for the incorrect claim. Source: 19 CFR 182.11(c), 182.122 (eCFR, as at 7 Oct 2026).
Assuming the certifier alone bears the consequences.
