An individual's customs broker license is suspended by operation of law for failure to file a triennial status report and pay the fee, and the individual has received the notice of suspension as prescribed by regulation. When will the license be revoked by operation of law if the individual fails to file the report and pay the fee?
On the 61st calendar day after the date of the suspension notice. Under 19 CFR 111.30(d)(4) a broker who misses the triennial status report is suspended by operation of law on March 1 of the reporting year; CBP sends written notice of suspension by March 31. If the broker files the report and pays the fee within 60 calendar days of the date of that notice, the license is reinstated; if not, the license is revoked by operation of law, so revocation takes effect once the 60-day window closes. The Federal Register notice of revocation is publication of a revocation that has already occurred, not its trigger. Source: 19 CFR 111.30(d)(4) (2023 ed.; unchanged in eCFR as at 7 Oct 2026; 111.30(d)(2) gained the continuing education certification in July 2023, which does not affect (d)(4)). CBP answer key: C. CBP's citation: 19 CFR 111.30 (d).
March 31 is the deadline for CBP's suspension notice, not the revocation date, and the Federal Register notice only publishes the revocation.
